Dancing!

This video is of Alex dancing Saturday night to the Backyardigans. He's never even really cared to watch them before but I guess the mood hit him. If you turn it up you can hear them singing "riding the range"- it's actually a catchy tune. He wore himself out!

Papa's Birthday!

Sunday we celebrated (just a little late) Papa's birthday at Mimi's house. Alex of course loved the food and the presents! He thinks the presents are for him at first but then has to learn (sometimes the hard way) that they aren't.

Helping Papa blow out his candles.

Eating yummy cheesecake.

and more cheesecake....(is anyone surprised?)

The next night we went out just Alex, John, Parker, me, Jimmy and Emily for Jimmy's birthday. We ate at Brickhouse and pretty much had the place to ourselves for a while. Alex had to help open presents again. Grammy got Papa a Wii and a package of games. Alex was sooo upset when he didn't get to take the box of games home to his house. He could not understand why they weren't his! There were even a few tears:( Happy Birthday Jimmy! We hope you had a good one and we love you!

Day 12 of No Paci

I think we've had a break through-good thing because I was ready to give in and give it back to him today if he still wasn't napping. Saturday and Sunday he napped for about 3 hours and today we are starting the 3rd hour of his nap!! Thank you Lord! Hopefully, things are back to normal now. I've been doing a lot of praying and worrying over this (I know to some of you this is just dumb for me to worry about). But for some reason I feel better if he sleeps well and I have since he was born. I feel like it makes him a sweeter, more well rested baby. No-I don't want him to take naps just so I can relax-even though that is nice-because even when he doesn't sleep he will just stay in his crib and talk to himself and on some occasions clap and yell "yeah!" (Who knows what that's about!) He does still mention "paci" sometimes but he just holds it for a second and then it is gone. He has moved on to something else though. I started giving him a stuffed animal to sleep with to try to replace the loss of the pacifier. On two different occasions now-one being this morning-the animal has greeted the new day with a soaking wet tail. A few days ago it was an elephant. The tail was so wet it was like it had been dipped in the tub. This morning it was the rabbit. How gross is that???? We also went to the dentist today. That's another post that probably won't happen today.
Just a few pictures to hold you over until I update again. Last Saturday we went to Olivia's 2nd birthday party! Alex had a ton of fun! Him and Jack liked playing in Olivia's new house she got for Christmas.

And he couldn't wait to sit down and eat cupcakes with his friends!

This is his new favorite thing to do. I don't know if all Barnes and Noble's have this but ours has a train table and he could spend all day there! I can just sit and read a magazine because he could care less if I'm there or not. He loves to watch the trains roll down the hill and off the table. He thinks it's hysterical!

Where paci go?

This is the 7th day of "no paci"-well, sort of:). Last Wednesday Alex went down for his nap with no paci. We said good bye to it and threw it in the trash (kind of.) That day he didn't take a nap. He just cried and talked (mostly talked) in his crib for about 2 1/2 hrs. That night he went to bed at 9 and woke up and cried from 10:30-11 and I didn't hear a peep the rest of the night. The next day, same thing, no nap, but did ok at bedtime with a little crying. Friday, same thing, no nap and cried some at bedtime. He has always been a great napper and night time sleeper so I was a little frustrated. Our pediatrician told us we could cut the end off so he wouldn't have suction when he sucked. So we did that Saturday for nap, but it still seemed like he was sucking some. He slept great and things have been back to normal pretty much since then. But technically, he still has the paci. So yesterday before bedtime I cut off the paci tip completely so there is no way he can have anything to suck. He still likes to hold on to it but that is it and he has done great so far! Hopefully, we will get this paci taken care of once and for all and he will forget all about it soon! Then we can move on to the big boy bed.

The bed was delivered last week, but the mattress didn't get delivered until Monday night. He loved watching the men bring in the bed and set it up. He kept repeating over and over, "big boy bed." I'm sure the guys were pretty tired of him by the time they left. :) I tried to distract him but he would look at me and say, "go see" and he would take my hand to go see what they were doing in his big boy room. So now we have everything we need but the bedding and rails. We are in no rush to make this move, at least I'm not. I want to get the paci thing taken care of and then we can move on to the big boy bed. I think he will do fine, but I don't want to change everything on him at once while we still have time.

THEN I was going to worry about potty training after he was in the bed and probably even after the baby comes in June, but he changed that this morning. During breakfast he leaned over to me and said "pee pee tee tee in potty." I was shocked, but I said, "do you need to go to the potty?" and he said "yes." So we rushed in there and after about a minute he went on the potty. It was unbelievable! You know we had bought him the Elmo seat a while back but I had put it up because he didn't seem to care, but then Mimi kept him yesterday and she set him on it so maybe he remembered what it was for. So I've been asking him all day if he needs to go to the potty and he's been saying no. We were at Mamaw and Papaw's house and he said, "poo poo." So we rushed to the potty but then became distracted by their toilet paper holder and wanted to get off. 5 minutes later I had to change his dirty diaper:( I feel like at least he is interested so we'll see where this goes!!

Alex's 2nd Birthday Party!

January 10th was Alex's second birthday and he was ready for it-definitely the presents! With Christmas so close to his birthday I think he's gonna think he gets presents every month now:). We hope he won't hate us for this later, but we put "no gifts" on his invitation. And wouldn't you know it this year he learned all about "presents?" As soon as a new guest would arrive at his party he met them at the door with one word "Presents?" It was so funny and a little sad because most people only brought cards with money or giftcards in them.:) He had about 4 presents to open though so I think he was ok. Trust me, the boy is not deprived in any way-he still had a great day!

The festivities started Thursday night when my parents got here. They had Alex a card with a dum dum sucker in it and Bailey (a good friend) sent gifts for him and the new baby. He was loving life!

Thursday morning started with breakfast with his good friend, Elmo.

Sitting with his new puppy puppet Bailey gave him.

Friday night we went to eat at Mugshots and he loved mom's milkshake. We had to hide it so he wouldn't drink it all in one gulp and then we stopped at Cold Stone and we all 4 shared another one. He was good about sharing, but he liked to cut everybody else's drink time short.

Last year we started the tradition of decorating his room the night before his birthday while he is sleeping so he can start the fun day off right! I got the idea from my former asst. principal who still does it to her kids even though they are much older!! Last year he busted us and this year too! It's like he's so excited he can't sleep. He watched us put up the streamers and just layed there in his bed. Here he is on his birthday morning!

Checking out the decorations.

This Elmo sings happy birthday. It is so sweet!

Playing tickle with Aunt Nan before the guests arrived.

Enjoying his party.

Elmo Cake!

Waiting patiently for Dar Dar to cut his piece.

Uncle Russell feeding him.

Opening his presents.

So excited about the one toy he got!

After he opened his presents I told him he needed to thank everybody by giving them all big hugs and kisses. He looked around like, "seriously mom, everybody?" But he did it.

Trying on his new Sesame Street leather biker jacket from Dar Dar and Grandaddy.

His cousin, Abbie, gave him Thomas the train.

He had to try out his new look with his jacket and car. He had to go through Mimi's legs...

and Dar Dar's...

and Grammy's. Can't you tell they'll all do whatever he wants them to?

My biker boy.

Waving bye bye!

The next day we ate at Cypress Inn after church. He loves to play tickle!

A few things about Alex: At his 2 year check up on 1/7/09 he was 36 in. tall (90th percentile) and weighed 33lbs and 8 oz (95th percentile). Needless to say, he has ALWAYS been in the 90th percentile for heigth and weight as long as I can remember. He is still a very easy baby and so sweet and happy almost all of the time. Sometimes I think he may have hit the "terrible twos" but it doesn't last long. He is very good at listening and not doing something when he is told not to. Sometimes he has to sit in time out or get his leg smacked but those times are rare...thank goodness!

He loves: cheetos, reading, turnip green casserole (who knew?), saying "hey" to everyone, trains, puppies, stuffed animals, car shoes, any kind of car to push around on the floor or down his ramp, orange juice, cheese straws, any type of ball, blueberries (even though he usually calls them strawberries), oranges, raisins, hot dogs, Elmo, Wiggles, Choo Choo soul, and Thomas the train videos, running, being outside, grilled cheese, shutting doors and drawers, brushing his teeth, sleeping,(he's still a great one-but he got his big boy bed today-not sleeping in it yet though-and we are taking the paci away today and I think that will be a whole other post.), morning glory muffins (that dar dar makes), balloons, and water.

He dislikes: sometimes holding hands (usually in parking lots and in his car seat), sitting with Santa, having to stop playing to eat, lemons (had to throw that one in there to make the list a little longer).

If I think of anything else I'll have to add it later because that's all I can come up with. I hope his like list is always longer than his dislike list:).

New pjs and me too!

This picture is too funny not to post and it doesn't do the pjs justice. Grammy and Papa gave him these for Christmas. He calls them his reindeer pajamas. They are 3T and they are tight. It is hilarious! Obviously, brown is not a color he should wear from head to toe either.:)

He is big into repeating everything that is said these days. If you say, "I'm gonna eat." He says, "I eat, too!" with a lot of excitement. When my parents were here for his birthday my Dad was shaving. I said, "Grandaddy is shaving." Alex said, "I shave too!" Yesterday morning he woke up and said, "See daddy?" I said, "No, daddy is working." He said, "I work, too!" Sunday night all three of us were in his room and I was reading from his bible storybook. The story was about Lot and it said "He loved God." Alex screamed out, "I love God, too!" It was so sweet!

Dar Dar and Grandaddy's visit after Christmas

Christmas night my parents came to stay the weekend. As usual, Alex's fun just continued a few more days!:)

He is crazy about the choo choo train! He would just leave it running and continue on with his day. He would sit a stuffed animal or an elephant he got for Christmas from Kristy and David by the track like it was watching the train while he was gone. He does like to sit in the middle of it some too! Excuse the pjs!

Mom, Dad, me, and Alex were at the mall. Mom and I were in a maternity store and Dad and Alex were riding the 25 cent cars out in the mall. We were checking out and Dad yells into the store from the mall area , "Hey, Alex made a buddy! We are going to ride the train...come on!" I mean seriously?? Mom and I looked at each other like, "Is that man with us? Was he talking to us?" It was so loud! Sure enough though, Alex made a friend. I wish I had gotten a better picture of Devon. He was almost 3 and about 4 inches shorter than Alex, but he was so cute! His grandmother said he wouldn't ride the train alone so he made friends with Alex and rode with him.

Bathtime Santa! A friend from Mom's church gave her this idea. It turned out pretty cute didn't it??

He loves to play basketball! (Don't know what he's gonna do if I ever get a dining room table to actually be in my dining room!) He loves to shoot but not pass!:)

All of a sudden he likes to get his back scratched (Can't say I blame him!). He usually wants his daddy to do it instead of me. But tonight Dar Dar was doing the trick also!

Christmas with Great Grandaddy and Nanny!

This is my last post about Christmas...I promise! But it's been kind of fun to stretch it out to January 12th!:) Somehow, my pictures from Christmas with Richard and Louise got deleted from my camera. That has never happened before and I have no explanantion for how it happened this time. I'm sorry, but Richard was gracious enough to send me his. Thank you Richard!

We went over to David and Kristy's house and had chili and then opened our presents. Alex, another grandson of Richard and Louise's was also there. I think he is 4 (maybe 5). It took Little Al (my Alex) and Big Al a little while to warm up to each other but when they did they had soo much fun! Little Al had a football and ran around the house and Big Al chased him. There was a lot of falling and slipping because of their sock feet but they had a good time! Little Al was definetly sweaty and red faced from all of the fun! Alex got a radio, a red beanie baby bird, a drum, and a leap frog telephonics learning game.

No pics, just an announcement!

We found out December 30th that we are having a girl!! I was shocked because I thought for sure it would be a boy! Most of you already know this great news but I had to share it. I will be 17 wks Wednesday. I am still feeling nauseous most of the day but I think/hope it is subsiding a little. :) I will post pictures soon but I feel like as soon as I found out I was pregnant my belly poked out. We are really excited and have a lot to do since we now have to change a baby boy's room to a baby girl's room. We bought furniture today for Alex a "big" boy room (He is moving into the "play" room) and bought our first piece of new furniture for her room last night. I am finally getting a changing table!! YEAH!! We bought a 3 drawer dresser to double as a changing table. No more kneeling on the floor for me!!

Christmas Day...Finally!

Christmas Day was just as busy as Christmas Eve! That morning we went over to David and Kristy's house for breakfast. We had lots of yummy things to eat and Alex realized he really liked the biscuits with honey on top like David. After we left there I ran Alex to Jimmy and Emily's to put him down for a nap. When he woke up the Warren's were over and we all opened presents after we ate. He was Santa once again and delivered presents to everybody. His cousin, Jay, gave him one of his most favorite presents, a Lionel train set. It is so neat! He got so excited opening it! First, he opened his "row tide" car which is a red train car that has the Alabama logo on the side. Then, he opened the box with the track and more train cars. Jay set it up for us and Alex was mesmerized. He liked just standing there and watching it go around. It has a whistle and smoke that comes out of it. It is definitely something he will keep forever. My parents came later Christmas night and got to see all of his new stuff!

Alex had so much fun this Christmas-being with everybody and opening presents. He was definitely more into it than his 1st Christmas when he was almost a year. He got the hang of opening presents and after it was all over he asked for "more presents." Alex is so sweet and sociable! He gives everybody "big hugs" and "big kisses" and speaks to EVERYONE no matter where we are. It has definitely been a Merry Christmas for us!
